FREEHOLD, N.J. — Two men have been indicted by a Monmouth County Grand Jury in connection with the May 2022 fatal shooting of a Neptune Township man, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Monday.
Kedrick Chatmon, 37, of Keansburg, and Lamare R. Walker, 45, of Barnegat, were each indicted on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree conspiracy to commit murder in the death of 39-year-old Marques Mills. Chatmon was also indicted on additional weapons charges.
On the night of May 14, 2022, Neptune Township police responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Hillview Drive and Edgemere Road. Officers found Mills inside a vehicle parked in his driveway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Mills was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he died from his injuries the following morning.
A joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and Neptune Township Police identified Chatmon and Walker as suspects. Both men were apprehended on November 21, 2024, with Chatmon being taken into custody in Keansburg and Walker in Barnegat. The arrests were carried out by local law enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Chatmon and Walker are being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending detention hearings scheduled for December 3, 2024, before Judge Jill G. O’Malley.
