ABERDEEN, Md. — A house fire in Harford County claimed the lives of two people Tuesday morning, authorities said. The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal confirmed that investigators remain on the scene to determine the cause.
The fire broke out around 8:15 a.m. at 184 Darlington Avenue. The Aberdeen Fire Department and Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire & Emergency Services responded, but Aberdeen Police officers were first to arrive. They encountered a 77-year-old man outside the home with injuries, who told them two family members were still inside. Officers attempted to enter but were pushed back by heavy smoke and flames.
It took 70 firefighters over an hour to bring the fire under control. Once inside, crews found two victims, whose identities have not yet been released. The injured man was transported to Bayview Medical Center, and an Aberdeen Police officer was taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.
Officials have not determined the fire’s cause or origin.
