Violent felon with animal cruelty record found stuffed in crawlspace after six-week manhunt

Fugitive with violent past found hiding in attic crawlspace in East Pittsburgh arrest

PITTSBURGH, PA – A convicted animal abuser and violent offender who disappeared weeks ago was captured Monday morning after sheriff’s deputies found him hiding inside an attic crawlspace of a home in East Pittsburgh.

Kachyphe McCullough-Williams, 25, was arrested without incident after Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office detectives located him inside a residence on Franklin Street. Deputies had received a tip earlier in the week suggesting he was inside the home. When they arrived, a woman answered the door and allowed them inside. A sweep of the property led them to the attic, where McCullough-Williams was found concealed in a crawlspace.

McCullough-Williams pleaded guilty in 2022 to 11 counts of animal cruelty, including one count of aggravated animal cruelty. He was sentenced to over 20 years of probation. A bench warrant was issued six weeks ago after he violated the terms of that sentence.

In addition to the animal cruelty conviction, McCullough-Williams was also on probation for prior guilty pleas to strangulation and aggravated assault, both of which also carried separate probation violation warrants.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Allegheny County Jail, where he is being held pending further proceedings.
