16-year-old busted for Boston killing that stunned neighborhood

Teen arrested in fatal Mattapan shooting that killed 17-year-old in broad daylight

Boston, MA — A 16-year-old male was taken into custody Friday in connection with the daylight shooting that left one teenager dead and another injured in a car on a residential Mattapan street last summer.

The suspect was arrested just after noon at Boston Police District E-13 in Jamaica Plain on a warrant issued by Suffolk Superior Court. He now faces multiple charges, including murder, unlawful firearm possession, and assault and battery with a firearm.

The charges stem from a July 5 shooting near Gladeside Avenue and Donwood Terrace in Mattapan. Officers responding to the scene shortly after 12:20 p.m. found two male victims inside a vehicle, both suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the other — identified as 17-year-old Christian Cousins of Stoughton — was critically wounded and later died at a local hospital.

The arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting, which occurred in the middle of the day in a residential area. Detectives from the Boston Police Department’s Homicide Unit have continued to work the case over the past four months, leading to the arrest of the juvenile suspect.

The teen is expected to be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court. Due to his age, his name has not been released publicly.

The Boston Police Department has not disclosed a motive or whether the suspect and victims knew each other. The investigation remains active.
