19 year old found shot dead on Southeast DC street

A teenager died after officers responding to a report of a person down found him suffering from gunshot wounds early Monday on Pennsylvania Avenue.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 19-year-old man was killed in an early morning shooting Monday in Southeast Washington, prompting a homicide investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.

Sixth District officers responded at approximately 4:30 a.m. on July 6 to the 2500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast, after receiving a report of a person down.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to a local hospital, where he died despite lifesaving efforts.

Police identified the victim as 19-year-old Turray Simms, of Northeast Washington.

No arrests have been announced.
