Driver in Car Crash Offered Victim Counterfeit Cash to Pay for Damages

FAIR LAWN, NJ – The Fair Lawn Police Department is investigating after the operator of a blue BMW involved in a collision offered to pay for damages to another driver’s vehicle with counterfeit cash.

“Our Monday started out with an accident on Broadway East and Fair Lawn Parkway,” the Fair Lawn Police Department said. “The operator driving a blue BMW struck another vehicle in the intersection. Instead of calling the police to report, he was in an accident, he attempted to negotiate with the other driver and paid them with counterfeit U.S. currency.”

Police said shortly after, the driver and passenger fled on foot when they heard responding officers en route.

“They ran into Saddle Brook where they were apprehended a few blocks in. 98.5 grams of assorted marijuana was taken into evidence,” the department said. “Both suspects were charged with counterfeiting and driver multiple motor vehiclesummonses which included an open container.
