WESTFIELD, NJ – The Westfield Police Department has issued the following details regarding criminal activity in the community over the past week. The information provided does not represent the total scope of police activity. Here’s what’s happening.
Blank check
A resident of the 500 block of Parkview Avenue reported an incident of theft and fraud. According to the resident an unknown actor(s) stole a blank check from inside his residence and endorsed it to another unknown person in the amount of $9,800.00. Victim reported this incident to his financial institution and was reimbursed the full amount.
That sweet smell of gas
According to the victim an unknown actor(s) poured sugar into her vehicle’s gas tank. This act of criminal mischief caused mechanical issues with the vehicle’s engine, which will require repair. The cost of repairs was unknown at the time of the initial investigation.
Car theft leads to large bank withdrawal
Victim stated her vehicle was parked in front of the residence when a suspect made entry into it and removed her bank card and $100.00 US currency from center console. Victim indicated the motor vehicle was locked when the incident occurred from approximately 2300 hours on 06/27/22 to 1630 hours on 06/28/22. Victim also stated the bank card was used to withdraw $1,000.00 from her bank account.
Identity Theft
A resident of the 800 block of Shadowlawn Drive reporting being a victim of Identity theft and fraud. Unknown suspect(s) altered stolen checks from the victim and attempted to cash the stolen checks in the amount of $4,800.00.
Fraud and theft
A resident of the 100 block of Jefferson Ave reporting being a victim of Identity theft and fraud. Unknown suspect(s) altered a stolen checks from the victim and attempted to cash the altered / stolen check in the amount of $9,850.21.
Grand theft auto…by key fob
A resident of the 200 block of Lynn Lane reported that they were the victim of a theft of a motor vehicle. Specifically, that unknown actor(s) entered their vehicle which had the key fob inside and stole the vehicle which was parked in the residents driveway. The victim states there is video of the incident.
BB gun assault
Two victims reported a simple assault that occurred in the area of Elm Street and Orchard Street. The victims stated that two unknown individuals riding in a small black-colored four door sedan shot them with unknown projectiles from an airsoft gun or BB gun. The victims observed a white and orange-colored airsoft gun or BB gun, which was used to shoot the unknown projectiles. One victim was struck in the lower legs while the other victim was struck in the left arm. No injuries or marks were reported at that time. The suspect vehicle traveled northbound and fled the area.
