Evesham Police Say Child Luring Report Simply a Misunderstanding

by Charlie Dwyer

EVESHAM, NJ – Police in Evesham said a possible child luring incident in the township was nothing more than a misunderstanding and mechanical failure.

According to police, on Friday, at approximately 4:45 PM, officers received a report of a suspicious encounter between a juvenile female and an adult male in the area of PDQ, 745 South Route 73.

“The victim reported that as she was walking on the sidewalk along Route 73 in front of PDQ, a white box truck abruptly pulled to the shoulder and a male exited the vehicle,” police said. “The male then approached the female, which prompted her to run. The victim called her mother, who arrived on scene within minutes and also observed the white box truck.”

Police here said the victim and her mother reported that the box truck then pulled back onto Route 73 southbound and continued into Voorhees.

“The victim was able to obtain a photograph of the license plate; which Detectives were later able to clarify to make out the characters of the plate. After further investigation, Detectives were able to determine who was driving the commercial box truck and they made contact with the driver,” police said after conducting an investigation. “The driver recalled the incident in detail and it was determined that the box truck was having a mechanical failure that caused the vehicle to smoke, which is why he stopped abruptly and jumped from the truck. At this time, there is no reason to believe this encounter was ill intended or that the driver is a danger to anyone.”
