Here’s how to make a grape vineyard in your New Jersey garden for less than $100

by Lifestyle and Family

New Jersey is not known worldwide for its grape and wine-producing capacity, but it is a great place to grow grapes, and by visiting box stores and using a few things around the house, you can make your own backyard grape vineyard for under $100.

First, the grapes. Check out box stores like Lowes, Home Depot, and Tractor Supply Company for deals on grape vines; sometimes, you can even find mature vines that will bear grapes the first year you plant them.

Each spring, Lowes sells $10 grape vines in a pot. That’s what we used for this new vineyard at our homestead this week. We bought five vines for $50.

Then we bought two six-foot steel posts for $6 each at Tractor Supply Company, four bags of $2 Miracle Grow topsoil, and a $10 spool of metal wire. Then we bought two $4 bags of wood mulch. Those items can all be bought at the local box stores or your local gardening shop anywhere in New Jersey.

We dug our holes, lined the bottom with topsoil, planted our grapes, backfilled with more topsoil, and covered it with mulch.

Then we pounded the stakes into the ground and ran three wires between them to keep the vines trellised.

If you want to spend more money, you can get fancy with your grapes. Concord Grapes are easy to grow in New Jersey but are a bit more expensive.

If you want some great deals, head to the box stores at the end of the season when garden plants are on clearance.

There you have it, a DIY mini grape vineyard in your own backyard for under $100.
