Five Indicted for Drugging and Robbing Victims Outside NYC Bars and Nightclubs

NEW YORK, NY – Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. announced today the indictment of Jayqwan Hamilton, 35, Robert Demaio, 34, Jacob Barroso, 29, Andre Butts, 27, and Shane Hoskins, 30, for robbing numerous victims by drugging their drinks at bars and nightclubs throughout New York City. The five individuals are facing multiple counts of grand larceny, assault, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The group targeted victims in various neighborhoods, including the Meatpacking District, the Lower East Side, and the East Village. They targeted patrons who appeared to be intoxicated or otherwise vulnerable and slipped various drugs, including ketamine and the “date-rape drug” GHB, into their drinks. Once the victims were incapacitated, the group would steal their wallets, cash, cell phones, and other valuables.

In some instances, the victims were taken to nearby ATMs where the suspects would force them to withdraw large sums of money. The group is believed to have stolen thousands of dollars and caused significant harm to the victims. The investigation, which began in the summer of 2022, involved the combined efforts of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, the NYPD, and the Mayor’s Office.

The indictment sends a strong message that such predatory behavior will not be tolerated in New York City. Authorities are urging anyone who may have been a victim or has information about the group to contact the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office or the NYPD. The case serves as a reminder to be vigilant about personal safety while enjoying nightlife in the city.
