NYPD investigating midtown slashing attack

NEW YORK CITY, NY – The New York City Police Department announced the arrest of 34-year-old Melvis Gimenez on Sunday, in connection with an assault that occurred within the Midtown North Precinct.

Gimenez, a Manhattan resident, has been charged with assault after slashing a 28-year-old male on the right side of his face during a verbal dispute on March 28, 2023, inside 718 11 Avenue.

After the assault, Gimenez fled the scene on a motorized scooter. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment in stable condition.

The NYPD had previously asked for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual involved in the incident. The arrest came as a result of ongoing investigation efforts and through tips from the public.
