Man shot and killed during altercation at Martinsville bar

MARTINSVILLE, VA – A shooting in Martinsville has left one man dead, according to the police.

The incident occurred on West Church Street, where the police responded to a disturbance call at around 12:04 a.m. on Saturday at Roosky’s Bar & Grill.

When the police arrived at the scene, they found 37-year-old Clayborne Kent Jr. of Martinsville suffering from a gunshot wound. Kent was immediately rushed to SOVAH Health Martinsville, but he died while en route to the hospital.

After processing the crime scene and interviewing witnesses, the detectives identified the other person involved in the incident as 23-year-old Trequon Davis. Davis was located and taken into custody without incident at his residence on Beaver Street in Martinsville.

Davis has been charged with manslaughter, reckless handling of a firearm, and discharging a firearm in a public place resulting in an injury. He is currently being held without bail in the Martinsville City Jail, according to the police.

The Martinsville police department has stated that the case is still under investigation, and they are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward.
