UTICA, NY – Michael Nelson, 37, and Joshua Hanrahan, 38, were apprehended by the Utica Police Department in response to a reported burglary on the 800 block of Waverly Pl on Monday, around 10:45 am. Officers, dispatched following a call concerning a possible burglary, spotted two men fitting the provided descriptions in the vicinity.
Upon encountering police, Nelson walked away while Hanrahan dropped his bicycle and fled. Both men were eventually detained and transported to the Utica Police Department. Hanrahan left behind a bag on his abandoned bicycle, which contained several envelopes and bags of suspected narcotics.
Investigations revealed that Nelson had trespassed the location, while Hanrahan was found to have entered a backyard shed.
As a result, Nelson was charged with trespass and obstructing governmental administration. Hanrahan faces charges including criminal trespass, obstruction of governmental administration, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.
