Toms River man, inmate confesses to giving deadly dose of drugs in jail

FREEHOLD, NJ – Alvino Hinton, a 48-year-old inmate at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, has confessed to supplying a fellow inmate with the drugs that led to his overdose and subsequent death.

On Friday, Hinton appeared before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Chad N. Cagan and pleaded guilty to a single count of Strict Liability for a Drug-Induced Death.

David Egner, the 31-year-old victim from Toms River, was found unresponsive in his cell on Sunday, April 17, 2022.

After being rushed to a local hospital, Egner was diagnosed with heroin/fentanyl poisoning and later pronounced dead.
