Low flying helicopters in Suffolk County, here’s why

by Adam Devine

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY – The Suffolk County Police Department has issued a notification to residents regarding the presence of low-flying helicopters in the area over the next three weeks.

PSEG, the utility company, has entered into a contract with JBI Helicopters to conduct powerline patrol flights in Suffolk County until the end of June.

The helicopter being utilized for this purpose is a black Bell 407, clearly labeled as Powerline Patrol.

It is anticipated that the helicopter will operate at a low altitude, specifically in close proximity to PSEG transmission lines. The purpose of these flights is to ensure the integrity and safety of the powerline infrastructure in the area.
