Driver in critical condition after being shot in Newark

NEWARK, DE – Late on Sunday, at approximately 11:14 PM, the Newark Police Department responded to a vehicle crash at Whitechapel Drive and Aylesboro Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 55-year-old male driver suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.

The victim was treated at the scene by New Castle County EMS paramedics and transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Evidence suggests that the man was shot in the unit block of Dunsmore Road and managed to drive away before crashing.

The Newark Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident. Sgt. J. Skinner is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact him at (302) 366-7100 x. 3135.
