Queens Man Arrested Following Fatal Vehicle Collision

QUEENS, NY – An update was provided by the New York City Police Department on Thursday, regarding a fatal vehicle collision at Atlantic Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard. Errick Persaud, a 24-year-old male from Queens, was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter, operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .08 of 1%, and DWI.

Following a 911 call at approximately 02:33 AM, the police responded to the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed that a Mercedes Benz C300, driven by Persaud, collided with a NYC Department of Environmental Protection truck, causing it to overturn. A 38-year-old male passenger was ejected from the truck, sustaining severe injuries and was later pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

Persaud was transported to New York Presbyterian Queens Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate the incident.
