Two charged in Newburgh Double Homicide

Newburgh, NY – Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler and City of Newburgh Police Commissioner José A. Gomérez jointly announced the arrest of Dwayne Hines, 39, and Romaine McRae, 39, both from Brooklyn, on July 12.

The defendants have been charged with Murder in the Second Degree and Attempted Murder in the Second Degree.

Following their arraignment on July 13, in Newburgh City Court, they were remanded to the Orange County Jail without bail.

The case has been presented to the Orange County Grand Jury, which returned an indictment. The defendants will appear in Orange County Court at a later date for arraignment on the indictment.

The arrests are a result of a comprehensive and collaborative investigation into a brazen double shooting that took place on Lander Street in the City of Newburgh at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 24.

The incident resulted in the death of one man and left another paralyzed.
