Fugitive Wanted for Deadly Stabbing Captured by U.S. Marshals

UTICA, NY – A collaborative effort by the US Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Utica Police Department led to the arrest of a suspect in a stabbing homicide.

The members of the task force, the Utica Police Department Warrants Unit, and the Oneida County Sheriff Department Warrants Unit were involved in the arrest that took place at around 8:00PM.

The victim, Anthony Q. Johnson, lost his life after being stabbed with a knife in a conflict with the suspect, Sakwaun Hakes, a 32-year-old resident of Utica.

Hakes was identified early in the investigation and was located and arrested later in the day.

Hakes now faces charges of murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
