New Jersey to Increase Gasoline Tax by One Penny Next Month

Trenton, N.J. — The gasoline tax in New Jersey will rise by approximately one penny per gallon starting next month, announced Gov. Phil Murphy’s administration on Friday.

This increase marks a shift after two years of declining gas taxes in the state.

The new rate will be 42.3 cents per gallon, up from the current 41.1 cents. This adjustment reflects a roughly 2% increase and is the culmination of two separate levies commonly known as the gas tax in New Jersey.
