Newark Police Dept. Announces New Public Safety Academy

NEWARK, NJ – The Newark Department of Public Safety is welcoming applications for its upcoming Public Safety Academy, set to begin on Tuesday, September 19.

The 9-week training program will cover various aspects of public safety, including the operations of the Newark Police and Fire Divisions.

Participants will learn about crime prevention, gang awareness, and domestic violence. They will also receive training on how to devise a fire escape plan, conduct arson investigations, and properly use a fire extinguisher.

The academy will also provide insights into the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and its role during catastrophic events.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the department’s specialized equipment, including SWAT vehicles and fire trucks.
