NEW ORLEANS, LA – Charles Roy, 34, pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute heroin, felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
On July 20, 2021, Louisiana State Police providing security at the Hampton Inn and Suites in New Orleans spotted Roy, who had an outstanding arrest warrant. The following day, they arrested him with the assistance of agents from the Office of Homeland Security. During the arrest, law enforcement officers smelled marijuana on Roy and his backpack. A subsequent search revealed two bags containing around 50 grams of fentanyl and heroin, a digital scale, and a semi-automatic handgun with a laser/flashlight attachment and a loaded magazine holding 26 rounds.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. It was investigated by the Louisiana State Police and the Office of Homeland Security. Assistant United States Attorney André Jones is handling the prosecution.
