COLUMBUS, OH – A mental health call escalated into violence as an officer was struck and a man was shot.

The incident occurred around 10:49 p.m. in the 1600 block of Sullivant Avenue. Responding to a report of a man in mental distress who allegedly assaulted two individuals, police identified the man as 36-year-old Michael Frierson.

As investigations progressed, officers concluded that domestic violence was involved, and an arrest was warranted.

Despite negotiations, officers were compelled to force entry, during which Frierson struck an officer with an object.

In the ensuing confrontation, Frierson was shot but is currently in a stable condition at the hospital. Police recovered a knife, fork, and pair of scissors from the scene.
