Police Shoot Woman in Stolen Car With Pepperballs During Traffic Stop in New Jersey

by Charlie Dwyer

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – On October 3rd, around 12:43 a.m., Gloucester Township Police officers, during a proactive patrol operation in the Cherrywood Homes area, identified a silver Nissan previously reported stolen from a nearby town. The officers initiated a motor vehicle stop on Blackwood Clementon Road.

The driver, identified as Linda Johnson, resisted officers’ instructions, sealing herself inside by rolling up the vehicle’s windows and refusing to exit.

For nearly an hour, officers engaged in dialogue with Johnson, attempting to peacefully resolve the situation. After this extended negotiation proved unsuccessful, officers broke the car window.

To ensure a safe arrest, a less-lethal Pepperball Launching System was utilized, releasing a chemical agent inside the car, which temporarily affected traffic flow.

Johnson was arrested without any injuries to herself or the officers involved. She faces charges of Resisting Arrest (a disorderly persons offense) and Receiving Stolen Property (3rd Degree).

Johnson has since been released and awaits her upcoming court date.
