Argument Over Car Crash in Queens Ends with One Dead

QUEENS, NY — Gilbert Augustin, 30, was arrested and charged on Friday, October 20, after a vehicular collision escalated into a fatal physical altercation in Queens. The incident resulted in the death of Jasmer Singh, 66.

Officers responded to the scene in front of 87-34 Van Wyck Expressway at approximately 12:02 p.m. on Thursday, October 19. Following a vehicle collision, Augustin and Singh engaged in a physical altercation.

Singh was subsequently transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in critical condition.

At approximately 1:06 p.m. on Friday, Singh succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Augustin was arrested at 3:30 p.m. on Friday by officers in the NYPD’s 102 Precinct. He faces multiple charges including manslaughter, assault, aggravated unlicensed operator, and leaving the scene of an accident.
