WASHINGTON, D.C. – An 27-year veteran off-duty Housing officer was shot in Northeast D.C. yesterday en route to work.
Steven Spencer, Deputy Chief of Police of the D.C. Housing Authority, confirmed during a news conference that the officer returned fire, though it remains unclear whether the suspect was injured. The officer then drove to the Housing Authority Headquarters on North Capitol Street, where officials called 911. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
At the time of the incident, the officer was in his private vehicle; it is unknown if he was in uniform. Police have issued a lookout for a silver two-door Honda Accord with heavily tinted windows and unknown Maryland tags, last seen driving from the 1400 block of New York Avenue to Montana Avenue.
