BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Following a barricade incident on November 10, Alonzo D. Blakey, 50, of Columbia Drive, Bridgewater, N.J., faces charges of aggravated assault, as announced by Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Chief Francisco Roman Jr. of the Prosecutor’s Office, and Bridgewater Township Police Chief John B. Mitzak.
The incident began with a 911 call at 7:19 a.m., reporting a problem at a residence on Columbia Drive. Further calls indicated an adult female was held against her will. Bridgewater Police responded, finding entry barricaded. The Somerset County SWAT, Crisis Negotiations Team, and Tactical Medics responded.
After four hours of negotiation, SWAT intervened following screams from inside. They breached the barricaded door, rescuing the female victim with stab wounds and lacerations. Simultaneously, Blakey was apprehended with self-inflicted injuries. Both received medical attention and are expected to survive.
Blakey was charged with 2nd degree aggravated assault, 3rd degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and 4th degree unlawful possession of a weapon. He remains in a trauma center under guard, awaiting transport to Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing. The investigation continues.
