Homeless Man Sentenced for Stabbing Skateboarder on Williamsburg Bridge

BROOKLYN, NY – Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced the sentencing of Omar Cartagena, a 46-year-old homeless man, to 14 years to life in prison for the unprovoked stabbing of a skateboarder on the Williamsburg Bridge.

The attack, which occurred on October 16, 2021, left the victim critically injured.

Cartagena, identified as a mandatory persistent violent felony offender due to previous convictions, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault.

The attack involved Cartagena stabbing the 30-year-old victim in the chest and then threatening him again at the end of the bridge.

The victim managed to photograph Cartagena and seek emergency medical help, leading to Cartagena’s arrest shortly after the incident.
