Bomb Squad Investigates Suspicious Device Tied to Telephone Pole in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD TOWNSHIP, NJ – On Sunday, at approximately 7:45 a.m., Lakewood Township Police Department officers responded to a report of a suspicious item attached to a utility pole at the intersection of 4th Avenue and Forest Avenue.

The New Jersey State Police Bomb Disposal Unit was engaged and secured the device.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Lakewood Township Police Chief Gregory Meyer confirmed that the device was found to be inert and posed no danger to the public.

This incident remains an active investigation. Lakewood his home to one of America’s largest concentration of Orthodox Jews and is under a heightened state of security after the October 6th terrorist attack in Israel. In that attack, terrorists aligned with Hamas killed over 1,000 Israelis and foreign nationals, taking hundreds hostage.
