NEWARK, N.J. – Michael Drobish, 46, of Cedar Grove, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for his involvement in a health care fraud scheme that cost over $6 million.
Drobish, the former owner of a New Jersey marketing company, admitted to his role in defrauding health benefits programs by billing for unnecessary compounded prescriptions.
U.S. District Judge Katharine S. Hayden issued the sentence in Newark federal court. The fraud, spanning April 2014 to January 2017, involved Drobish hiring sales representatives to target individuals with insurance coverage for compounded medications.
These individuals were then directed to telemedicine companies for prescriptions, often without legitimate medical examinations.
Compounding pharmacies involved in the scheme filled these prescriptions, leading to significant reimbursements from insurance plans. The pharmacies paid a portion of these reimbursements to Drobish’s company.
