INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Tonika Miller, a 33-year-old woman from Indianapolis, Indiana, has been sentenced to one year in prison after pleading guilty to reckless homicide. This sentence is in connection with the 2022 shooting death of 41-year-old Dashawn Roscoe, the father of her two children. As part of the plea agreement, two counts of neglect of a dependent against Miller were dismissed.
The incident occurred on May 27, 2022, and details emerged a few weeks after Roscoe was found fatally shot. According to Miller’s statement in the probable cause affidavit, the couple, who had been together for several years, left their children, aged 9 months and 3 years, unattended in their apartment to have a sexual encounter at a nearby playground in the Carriage House East Apartments complex.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) discovered Roscoe’s body outside his apartment, near the leasing office and community room. The children were found alone in the apartment, where officers also noted signs of human blood.
Miller, during questioning, explained that they felt comfortable leaving their sleeping children because the playground was not far and the encounter would be brief. She admitted to having an argument with Roscoe about cheating after the sexual encounter and acknowledged she had brought a gun for protection due to the late-night hour.
