Traffic Stop Leads to Loaded Handgun and Arrests in Utica

by Adam Devine

Utica, NY – A routine vehicle stop by officers from the Crime Prevention Unit on Oriskany Street for New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law violations on February 6th, at approximately 7:30 PM, led to unexpected discoveries and several detentions.

The vehicle, found to be carrying four individuals including a juvenile previously arrested for possession of a loaded handgun, was stopped to address the violations. Upon interaction, officers discovered that the driver was operating the vehicle with suspended driving privileges in New York. He was arrested without incident.

The necessity to tow the vehicle due to the driver’s suspended status led officers to conduct an impound inventory of the car. During this procedure, they found a loaded .357 handgun in the trunk. Subsequently, all occupants of the vehicle were detained and transported to the Utica Police Department for further investigation into the matter.
