QUEENS, NY — Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the arraignment of Zabihullah Ibrahimi, a city building inspector, on charges of bribery and official misconduct. Ibrahimi is accused of soliciting cash from homeowners to close property complaints, in one instance demanding $3,500 from a homeowner.

During today’s court proceedings, Ibrahimi, 42, of College Point, faced three counts each of bribe receiving in the third degree and official misconduct. Criminal Court Judge Julieta Lozano has scheduled his next court appearance for June 17. If convicted, Ibrahimi could face up to seven years in prison.

District Attorney Katz criticized the breach of duty by Ibrahimi, highlighting the loss to public safety when officials prioritize personal gain. DOI Commissioner Jocelyn E. Strauber and Buildings Commissioner Jimmy Oddo also expressed their commitment to integrity and public safety, acknowledging the collaborative efforts that led to Ibrahimi’s charges. The Department of Buildings has since audited Ibrahimi’s past inspections and initiated appropriate actions to prevent future misconduct.
