Southern Maryland Couple Wins $50K in Powerball

by Local News Report

Leonardtown, MD – Joseph and Sylvia Riley, a couple from St. Mary’s County, are celebrating their $50,004 win from the Powerball drawing held on Saturday, April 6.

The Rileys nearly claimed the jackpot, missing it by just one number, but still managed to secure a third-tier prize. They typically begin playing jackpot games like Mega Millions and Powerball when the prize exceeds $250 million. The Powerball jackpot had recently soared to an estimated $1.3 billion, prompting Joseph to buy a $10 quick-pick ticket at Walmart #1981 in California, MD.

After the drawing, it was announced that the jackpot was won in Oregon, but Maryland boasted three $50,000 third-tier winners. Joseph discovered their win after several checks of their ticket confirmed they had matched four white balls and the Powerball, plus an additional match on another line, totaling their winnings to $50,004.
