Perth Amboy ‘Carjacking’ Was Domestic Attack, Police Confirm

PERTH AMBOY, NJ — The Perth Amboy Police Department has announced the arrest of 24-year-old Ziyare Palmer following a violent assault that took place under the Victory Bridge on April 14, 2024. Palmer, a resident of Perth Amboy, faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and unlawful possession of a weapon.

The incident occurred around 11:15 P.M. when officers were called to the scene after reports of a man yelling for help. They found a 39-year-old male from Woodbridge with slash wounds and a severe hand injury.

The officers administered immediate first aid, and the victim was subsequently transported to a local trauma center for further medical treatment.

An intensive investigation led to the arrest of Palmer at 1 P.M. on Friday. He has been charged with Criminal Attempt (Murder 1st degree), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (4th degree), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (3rd degree), and Theft of a Motor Vehicle (3rd degree). Palmer has been processed and is set to be transferred to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.

Police have clarified that earlier reports of a homicide and carjacking related to this case were incorrect. The assault was identified as a targeted act of domestic violence, and authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.
