CALVERT COUNTY, MD — The Maryland State Highway Administration has announced scheduled maintenance for two key bridges in southern Maryland this month. The maintenance will include cleaning of bridge grates and drains. The MD 4 Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge will undergo maintenance on Sunday, April 21, starting at 6 a.m., and the MD 231 Benedict Bridge will follow on Sunday, April 28. Each operation is set to finish by 2 p.m. the same day.
During these maintenance times, flagging operations will manage traffic, closing one of the two lanes on the bridges. Portable variable message signs will be deployed to alert drivers of the work ahead. Although roadwork may pose an inconvenience, it is vital for maintaining a safe and dependable highway system. Motorists are urged to exercise caution and slow down when passing through these work zones.
