Ventnor City, NJ – A former code enforcement officer in Ventnor City was indicted for allegedly stealing over $75,000 in payments meant for city permits. Michelle Calderon, 37, of Egg Harbor Township, faces multiple charges related to the alleged embezzlement, announced by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office in a news release on Monday, April 29.
Calderon reportedly pocketed the cash given by taxpayers and businesses for permits and manipulated balance sheets to hide the theft. The charges against her include second-degree pattern of official misconduct, second-degree misapplication of entrusted property, and altering computer software to commit theft.
