Dover, DE – The Delaware State Police (DSP) and the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) are warning the public about a recent surge in suspected drug overdoses, with a particular focus on Sussex County. Troopers reported a significant increase in overdoses between April 26 and 30, 2024, resulting in at least one fatality and severe medical emergencies.
Many affected individuals showed symptoms resistant to Naloxone, with some needing intubation and experiencing uncontrollable convulsions despite anti-seizure medication. Investigations revealed the substances involved were packaged in small, white wax paper bags commonly associated with heroin, but further testing is necessary to determine their composition. DHSS and DSP advise extreme caution, urging the public to avoid illicit drugs and powdered substances, while also encouraging those in need to seek immediate medical or addiction support services.
DHSS offers various resources like the Delaware 211 helpline, Delaware Hope Line, and other treatment connections to assist individuals during such critical situations.
