Life in Prison Possible for Suspect in NYPD Detective Killing

Queens, NY – Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz brought forth an indictment against Guy Rivera, charging him with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller. Rivera also faces first-degree attempted murder for targeting an NYPD sergeant. Lindy Jones, Rivera’s codefendant, was included in the indictment on weapon charges.

District Attorney Katz stated that Detective Diller’s death was a result of efforts to remove illegal weapons from the streets. Rivera, 34, was arraigned on various charges, including murder and criminal possession of weapons, that could lead to life in prison. Jones, 41, was arraigned on weapon charges and faces up to 30 years behind bars. Both accused individuals were ordered to remain in custody until their next court dates.
