Attempted Robbery Leads to Shooting and Arrest in New York

NEW YORK, NY—An attempted robbery escalated to a shooting incident at the intersection of 12th Avenue and West 50th Street early Sunday morning. Three men exited a white vehicle around 4:25 AM and attacked a 35-year-old male in an effort to steal his necklace. During the struggle, one assailant accidentally shot his accomplice in the leg and chest as the victim managed to escape unharmed.

The injured suspect was later identified as 21-year-old Benny Polanco of Bronx, NY, who self-admitted to NYU Langone Medical Center and was subsequently arrested. Polanco faces multiple charges including attempted second-degree murder, first and second-degree robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree gang assault, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The remaining two suspects, described as males with dark complexions wearing all black, are still at large.
