Philadelphia, PA — A fatal accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian occurred Saturday afternoon on Broad Street in the 9th District.
The incident happened at approximately 1:08 PM when a silver 2022 Nissan Rogue, driven by a 24-year-old woman, struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, identified as Visva Varathakumar of N. Willington Street, was attempting to cross Broad Street from the east side to the west side. Varathakumar landed on the hood of the vehicle and sustained head injuries after hitting the windshield.
Emergency responders from Medic 7 transported Varathakumar to Jefferson Hospital.
At 8:00 PM, the Medical Examiner notified the Crash Investigation Division (C.I.D.) that Varathakumar was pronounced dead at 7:13 PM.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
