Fugitive Sought in Shooting at Rehoboth Restaurant

REHOBOTH, DE — Delaware State Police are currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Thursday at the Big Chill Surf Cantina parking lot in Rehoboth. At approximately 12:51 a.m. on June 28, 2024, troopers were dispatched to the scene at 19406 Coastal Highway following reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, authorities were informed of a 27-year-old man who had already been transported to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg. The initial investigation suggests the victim was involved in a physical altercation with several individuals in the restaurant’s parking lot. During the conflict, an unidentified black male reportedly drew a handgun from a bag and fired a single shot at the victim. Subsequently, all individuals involved in the altercation fled the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital by private vehicle, treated for his injuries, and later released.

Further investigation led detectives to identify 28-year-old Jonathan Blackwell of Milford, Delaware, as the suspect responsible for the shooting. A warrant for Blackwell’s arrest has been issued, covering several felony offenses. Police efforts to locate Blackwell are ongoing as they seek to bring him into custody.

The Delaware State Police urge anyone with information regarding the incident or Blackwell’s whereabouts to come forward to assist with the investigation.
