NORTH BRADDOCK, PA – The Allegheny County Police Department has charged Tyrell Knight, a 37-year-old man from New Kensington, in connection with a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred in North Braddock.
The incident took place on the morning of November 9, 2023, near the intersection of Braddock Avenue and O’Connell Boulevard. Upon their arrival at 8:14 AM, first responders found 75-year-old Harry King critically injured after being struck by a vehicle. King was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Knight, the driver, stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. North Braddock Borough Police called for the support of the Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide and Collision Reconstruction Units to assist in the investigation. Through witness statements and evidence at the scene, it was determined that Knight was driving westbound at a high speed and erratically, crossing into the eastbound lane and onto a grassy area before hitting King.
Further investigation revealed Knight was driving with a suspended license. A toxicology report indicated the presence of cannabinoids and THC in his system at the time of the crash. Knight has been charged with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and operating a vehicle involved in a death while not properly licensed.
Following his arraignment this morning, he is now held in the Allegheny County Jail.
