Criminal Suspect Attacks Nurses at Philadelphia Hospital, Stabbing and Beating One

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Officers from the 26th District were dispatched to Episcopal Hospital at 100 E Lehigh Ave following a report of an individual armed with a weapon. The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 4:18 PM.

Upon arrival, police found the suspect restrained by hospital staff in the emergency room. The initial call reported the individual stabbing employees with a syringe.

Security detailed that the suspect, who EMTs had brought in, exhibited violent behavior and struggled with the nursing staff during medication administration.

During the altercation, the suspect disarmed a nurse of a syringe, which inadvertently injured a security guard. A recovery specialist who intervened was stabbed twice in the forearm and narrowly avoided a facial attack by the suspect. In the chaos, a nurse sustained a head injury from the specialist’s elbow and was unable to recall the incident.

The suspect was arrested and faces multiple assault charges. East Detectives Division is leading the ongoing investigation.

The suspect’s name was not released at this time.
