Driver Sought in Deadly Hit and Crash that Killed Toms River Man in Monmouth County

SHREWSBURY, N.J., Aug. 16, 2024 — Law enforcement officials are actively searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 23-year-old man from Toms River.

The incident occurred in the early hours of August 5.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., Shrewsbury police responded to a 911 call reporting an unresponsive person near the intersection of Shrewsbury and Sycamore Avenues. Upon arrival, officers found the pedestrian, who had been struck by a vehicle. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released, and authorities have provided no additional details regarding the circumstances of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing as officials continue to search for the driver responsible for the fatal collision.
