No Injuries in Delmar House Fire Caused by Unattended Candle

DELMAR, Md. — A fire broke out late Wednesday afternoon at a single-family home in Delmar, Wicomico County, causing an estimated $25,000 in damages. No injuries were reported.

The Delmar Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene at 9139 Footbridge Lane at approximately 4:30 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find a two-story, wood-frame house ablaze. The fire, which originated on the second-floor stair landing, was brought under control within 15 minutes.

According to officials, the blaze was caused by an unattended burning candle. Smoke alarms in the home were present and activated, alerting the occupants who then discovered the fire and called 911.

The structure sustained approximately $20,000 in damage, with an additional $5,000 in losses to the contents, authorities reported. No arrests were made in connection with the incident.

Fifteen firefighters responded to the scene, containing the fire to the area of origin. The home was not equipped with fire sprinklers.
