SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The New York State Fair was abruptly closed early Sunday night following two reports of possible gunshots, which were later determined to be unfounded.
The initial call to the New York State Police came at 8:38 p.m., claiming shots had been fired between the midway and Suburban Park’s concert area. A second call followed three minutes later, reporting possible gunfire near the eatery building.
Troopers swiftly responded to both locations but found no evidence of gunshots or any injuries.
Following consultations with Fair officials, the decision was made to shut down the Fair early as a precaution.
The State Police continue to investigate the origin of the false reports.
