Bergenfield police to conduct pedestrian crosswalk decoy operation

by Breaking Local News Report

BERGENFIELD, N.J. — The Bergenfield Police Department will conduct a pedestrian crosswalk decoy operation on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at various locations throughout the borough.

The operation, carried out in cooperation with AAA Northeast, will involve police officers in civilian clothing posing as pedestrians. Other officers will monitor the area and stop motorists who fail to comply with pedestrian safety laws, including New Jersey’s statute 39:4-36, which requires drivers to stop and remain stopped for pedestrians in marked crosswalks.

The initiative is part of the department’s ongoing effort to reduce pedestrian injuries and fatalities while educating the public about traffic safety.
