Teen Dies Following D.C. Crash Involving Stolen Vehicles

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 16-year-old has died following a crash involving two stolen vehicles in Southeast D.C., according to police.

The crash occurred on Saturday, September 14, at approximately 12:15 a.m., when a stolen 2016 black Hyundai Elantra and a stolen 2020 white Hyundai Elantra were traveling at high speeds in the 4300 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast. Both vehicles veered into oncoming traffic and collided. The black Hyundai came to a stop in the same block, while the white Hyundai struck a tree. All occupants of the vehicles, except one, fled the scene.

The remaining occupant of the white Hyundai was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died on Friday. The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Kavonte Whatley of Northeast, D.C.
