GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A 17-year-old from Brookeville died Wednesday in a single-vehicle crash on Norwood Road in Sandy Spring, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.

Sanaa Virtue Vil was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla when the vehicle struck a wooden telephone pole around 7:57 a.m., police said. Vil was traveling northbound near Ashton Forest Way when the crash occurred.

Montgomery County officers and fire rescue teams responded to the scene. Vil was pronounced dead at the site of the collision, police said.

Two other passengers, both 17 years old, were extricated from the car and taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition, authorities said. The passengers have not been identified.

The police department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the cause of the crash and has asked anyone with information to contact them.
